If you are flying in you have two choices. Boston,Ma (BOS) ninety miles north, rent a car, less than a two hour drive to Chatham depending on traffic. Providence, RI(PVD) 120 miles west, rent a car, approximately a two hour drive.
Plenty of signs – go south towards Cape Cod, The Islands and Sagamore Bridge.
The quickest way to The Hawthorne. Not only the quickest but the most scenic.
Follow the signs to the Sagamore Bridge and cross the Cape Cod Canal. As soon as you cross the bridge the highway becomes Route 6, also known as Midcape Highway.
Take Route 6 to exit 11 and you will come to route 137 at the end of the ramp go left which is 137 South. In less than 100 yards on your left turn on to Pleasant Bay Road. Follow Pleasant Bay Road for 1.1 miles and you will come to a stop sign. STOP. Straight thru the stop sign and continue for .7 mile until you come to a Y. There you will see a sign, Route 28 North, Chatham, go right. It may be a little confusing since you will be going South but sign says North. Route 28 starts in Boston and ends up in Provincetown. Going away from Boston is South, returning to Boston is North.
Proceed down Route 28 North; you will actually be going South. On your left you will see many beautiful views of Pleasant Bay and literally at least a hundred boats anchored to their moorings. In 3.2 miles you will come to a stop light. Go thru the light, (not if it is red only on green) on the left in .8 of a mile will be the Hawthorne.
Besides being the quickest and the shortest you will avoid the congested traffic of Main Street in Chatham.
